And the Beat Goes On…

The climate change debate continues to foster discussions and reports that cite research to support whichever beliefs the authors have based on the scientific results and data they have gathered. While there are those who doubt that climate change is having critical, negative effects on the environment, habitats, animals, etc., there are scientists who are actively working in the field, conducting research, and analyzing data who absolutely believe we are in a very perilous situation in regard to climate change which we can’t afford to ignore.

Dr. Steven Armstrup is one of the leading polar bear experts who has been working in the field studying polar bears for several years, and he strongly believes that it is imperative that changes be made in the very near future to reduce carbon emissions and stop (then eventually reverse) the negative impact of climate change and global warming. Dr. Armstrup, along with six of his North American colleagues, has recently published a paper titled “Rebuttal of ‘Polar Bear Population Forecasts: A Public–Policy Forecasting Audit.”

In a recent e-mail I received, Dr. Armstrup described this article as “a rebuttal of a critique of the USGS work that led to the listing of polar bears. In the article, we effectively counter every argument those authors made.” Dr. Armstrup goes on to state that he strove to include “a common language description of why we have global warming and how climate models predict it.”

You may view the paper by downloading it here. A New Zealand site, “Hot Topic,” that is associated with the book of this same name has published an entry about this latest paper by Armstrup, et. al. Both the entry and the book were written by Gareth Renowden, focusing on global warming and its related effects on the future of New Zealand.

So, as the debate of climate change continues, be sure to read this recent paper. I feel certain it will either confirm your beliefs or, if you do not agree that climate change is really affecting our planet, I am pretty sure you will reconsider some of your existing beliefs. Be sure to share your thoughts and comments here. And, feel free to post questions for Dr. Armstrup here as well. Happy reading…and the climate change “beat” goes on!!
